Dressing Like A Valentine

For The Love of Pink and Red

For The Love of Pink and Red by jessica hagy featuring scalloped shorts

So you've heard me chatting about my love for red and pink worn together here and here, but I figured I might take it a step further and style my own little get-up. Ever since my Coachella post for Shop Eat Sleep yesterday I've gotten a little polyvore happy.

I used to think too much red and pink would look like a second grader on Valentine's day but somewhere in the past few months I happily changed my mind and got all sorts of obsessed.

Regarding the ensemble above, there's some specific things that bring me joy: the high waist and scalloped hems on the shorts; the luxe fabric of the silk blouse; the crossbody length of the leopard bag (I like to use both of my arms... it's weird); and the kind-of-masculine-until-you-notice-the-bow loafers.

I'm on a loafer kick this week too. I bought a pair of mint green crocodile loafers (I know, swoon) at Crossroads on Saturday and my boyfriend looked at them and asked, "um, are those used?"

I replied, "yes, but they're from Italy."

For some reason, knowing my used loafers were italian made me feel better about sliding my toes into a space other digits had been before.

Maybe my toes will develop an Italian accent.

Fit To Be Tied

Sunglasses- Chanel; Necklace- Banana Republic; Shirt- Anthropologie; Dress- Thrifted (Crossroads); Shoes- Jessica Simpson Dany Platforms; Bracelets- Vintage & Nordstrom

This title is a little deceiving. I'm not currently mad as a hornet (two idioms in one post! yipee!) but I did tie my shirt in a knot... over my dress... so... there's that.

Anyways, I have to tell you about my new favorite thang, Crossroads Trading Co. Perhaps, you've already visited one of these amazing outposts (there's a bunch throughout the west coast) but I'd never heard of them until my sage, Miss B Jones, did a post on the Orange County location.

The whole deal, essentially, is you can buy, sell or trade clothes there (trade just sounds fun... like beanie baby bartering). I, having the tendency to hold onto clothes forever, naturally went with sole purpose of "buying." Which I did, very happily.

I hit up the Santa Monica location last weekend (wearing 5 inch high heels... why?!@?!?#) and in just a few minutes my arms were lost under a pile of awesome vintage and formerly loved dresses. I was a little overwhelmed and went to my comfort zone (dresses) since it was my first time but the whole store was brimming with cool items.

I spent an hour and a half, giddy as a schoolgirl, and walked out with 2 dresses, a skirt and an awesome Stevie Nicks-esque shawl thing for under $60. No typo.

One of my finds was this leopard print slip dress which I layered under a blouse for an evening showing of Bill Cunningham New York last night. There's approximately a million and three ways I could wear this dress so don't be surprised if you see it pop up again.

And, if you're wondering about the documentary, it was interesting, funny and smart. There were a couple of dry moments but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it and left feeling inspired. Bill's the sort of guy that tells strangers when they have spinach in their teeth and I just wanted to hug him.

Hey, I'm Not Going To Judge You...

1. If you set your cruise control on surface streets.

2. If you put perfume on before you go to bed... alone.

3. If you've ever tailored your outfit to fit the vibe of the cocktail you will be drinking that night.

4. If you're more of a chapstick chick than a lip gloss girl.

5. If you think few things could be worse than a wet doorknob.

6. If you feel rebellious parking in two spots at once.

7. If your face has felt the light of your laptop more than the light of the sun lately.

8. If driving with shoes on seems weird to you.

9. If you cried every time you saw the chubby kid on American Idol.

10. If you have such intense (undiagnosed) ADD that you have to switch cardio machines every 20 minutes to avoid dying of boredom.

PS, Well looky here my little cupcakes:

Golden Girls...

Wear things like this:

And only consume cake with gold buttercream frosting (and champagne):

I've always believed gold is the most flattering on me (second only to diamonds...). Fancy yourself a golden girl?

Thanksgiving Thank You Note

Since it is the time of giving thanks (and stuffing yourself with food), I decided to write a personalized thank you note to some of my favorite individuals.

To my best friends,
Thank you for assuring me that you love every blog post (the good and the bad). Thank you also for telling me when I am being inappropriate by dancing on top of a fountain or sharing life secrets with the bartender. Finally, thank you for continuing to be my friend despite the fact that I send you blackberry pictures of my dog and outfit contemplations regularly.

Serving the bartender might have been the point it got inappropriate

To my parents,
Thank you for always answering your phone when my car is broken or I can't find green onions at the grocery store.

To my grandma,
Thank you for giving me your amazing mohair and fur sweaters that I wear with pride. It ups the cool factor that I'm able to say "this was my grandma's."

To 103.5,
Thank you for accepting that November is a perfectly splendid time to start playing Christmas music.

To Dan,
Thanks for introducing me to over easy eggs, handling the heavy lifting and dressing like Ronald McDonald on Halloween...It's a real pick me up whenever I need a laughable mental image.

To TLC,
Thank you for filling your line-up with reality shows (cough, Say Yes to the Dress, Sister Wives, Four Weddings...) that are disturbingly addictive.

To wine,
Thank you for always hanging out with me on the weekends, despite your other obligations. Also, thanks for making the world seem rosier.

Other things I'm thankful for: kindness from strangers, the bravery and sacrifice of our troops, Jesus (my main man), my brothers, stuffing, pumpkin pie, the fact that I graduated (somehow), people that let you cut in front of them when you're stressed during freeway merging, black eyeliner (for sticking with me throughout the past eight years of our relationship), my travel adventures, dirty martinis, USC football games (for allowing me to step back into college every so often), warm towels, peonies, pasta, flea markets, and miraculously comfortable high heels.

Shoe Porn

The Clothes Whisperer is a newfound favorite of mine for a multitude of sartorial reasons; one of them is for introducing me to this amazing video of Anna Dello Russo. It's supposed to be a video for her upcoming scent but I can't stop staring at the shoes... enjoy.
