Long Skirt Lust

Throw away the razors ladies- skirts are gaining major length this fall (well, don't throw away the razor completely... a fur coat on your legs would be opposed by both PETA and myself).

When the fall weather soon rolls in, I'll be lusting over the fitted silhouette of this look, especially when worn with edgier pieces like leather biker jackets, heavy duty boots and tattered scarves.  And as a money saving tip, turn your summer maxi dress into a fall floor-length skirt by layering a dress under a T-shirt or blouse and a waist belt to get the look.

Hot For: Dannijo Baubles

Katie Armour's blog The Neo-Traditionalist is brimming with stylish and quirky finds and one of her latest posts introduced me to the fabulous jewelry line Dannijo. The website boasts five collections, and the "Boho" and "Grace" looks are my favorite. I'd love to drape any of these statement necklaces over a grungy t-shirt or pair the opulent earrings with a cocktail dress. Below are some looks from the Dannijo lookbook, as well as a collage of my favorite pieces.

Excuse Me, Your Vocabulary is Showing

Sometimes during my high school lunch breaks I would sneak off to the library and read the thesaurus. I know this is not an activity to brag about but the magic of saying one sentiment in so many colorful ways is exciting!

My secret academic eccentricities might have been slightly less awkward had I been reading the beautiful Webster's Fashion Color Thesaurus and Dictionary. I stumbled upon these beauties on SeeJaneWork's website which is heaven for the stylish organizational freak. I might not be willing to pay $180 a piece for them at the moment, but a nerd can dream.

Hot For: Plum Pouts

I haven't always been a fan of purple. Growing up, purple was the evil stepsister to my beloved hue, pink. It was the biggest competition in the "favorite color" category for all little girls, and since I played for the other team, I steered clear of purple for many years. But now, I am a back-stabbing wench because not only do I crave purple in my fall wardrobe, I'd also like to wear it on my face.

Plum pouts are popping up like Starbucks in the suburbs (pre-recession, obviously) and I am on the bandwagon. With minimal eye makeup the look is perfect for a night out.

Style Spotlight: Peek-A-Boo Parade

In efforts to further combine my longing for fall with my current station in summer, I've become obsessed with another trend that allows coverage and stylish... ventilation: peek-a-boo sheers.

I'm especially feeling the chiffon dresses with a shorter get-up underneath. Perfect for a night out, or if you're as effortlessly cool as the woman in the first picture (I, definitely, am not) you can rock see-through lace during the day. I don't, however, recommend doing this at a grocery store stocked with senior citizens. I accidentally wore a see-through lace pool cover-up to the grocery store one morning this weekend and nearly gave a few Golden Girls cardiac arrest.... beware.

Style Spotlight: The Thigh's The Limit

I hate to sound spoiled but I am ready for fall. The rich browns, textured scarves, boots, fur jackets, layering your favorite pieces, football season (see: beer and socializing). And while I lust for fall in the ninety degree heat of August I've been going crazy over one look in particular: thigh high boots and socks. Because, let's face it, fall weather isn't very different from summer weather in LA and sometimes a girl wants to show a little leg in autumn without looking too summery.

Apartment Aspirations

This summer I am living at home with my parents. I've been home for almost three months now and am starting to get slightly stressed because my response of "Oh I am at home for the summer," is about to run out. When school starts, the gig is up. It's not as forgiving to say, "Oh I am at home for the Fall, really wanted to enjoy the Autumn Holidays with my parents and teenage brother, they grow up so fast (insert faux parental sigh)."

When I was younger I always considered living at home after college comparable to wearing braces at 22 (that is to say, a petite social hindrance). Living at home meant you were the competitor on "Room Raiders" that was DEFINITELY not going to win, or that you like meatloaf and "The Price is Right." Luckily for me, my mom's not a big fan of meatloaf and I've got an over active imagination so I decorate my lovely imaginary apartment everyday. If you'd like to see what this imaginary apartment looks like you can enjoy the pictures below.

Literary Lust: Fitzgerald Gets Gussied Up

One of my favorite blogs "Design Sponge," recently introduced me to the graphic design genius Coralie Bickford-Smith. As a book-lover and a lover of great graphic patterns, I've gone positively ga-ga over Coralie's new collection of covers for F. Scott Fitzgerald. Not only is Fitzgerald my favorite author, but now his collection is dressed in bold metallic art deco patterns that are beyond swoon-worthy. Excuse me while I stock my entire bookshelf with Coralie's cover designs.

How To: Instantly Up Your Sex Appeal

1. Stand up straight. Though you may resent the advice your mother so lovingly nagged you with, posture works wonders in the slimming department. And throwing your shoulders back definitely beats hitting the gym.

2. Make friends with a stranger; confidence is the new black.

3. Create your own catwalk; all you need is an i-pod and some sass and that drab sidewalk is suddenly NY Fashion week (it's almost September so this is an especially relevant tip... and people always confuse you with Giselle anyways, right?...).

4. Rock bold lipstick. One easy step glams up an entire look.

5. Ditch the baggage. Nothing screams "I've got a long to-do list and a peculiar affection for hand sanitizers in several scents," like a bulky, daytime bag. Ditch the cargo for a less inhibiting alternative and you'll feel as free as Miss Lohan exiting the slammer.

6. Wear your sexiest lingerie, even if you're the only one that will see it (But avoid any constricting or confusing get-ups...unhinging your lovely corset during your lunch break it just a tad inappropriate).

7. Step into sexy heels. Nothing need be said except: they make everything look better.

8. Let your hair down, even if it's not in perfect shape. Tousled, messy (okay, sometimes greasy) locks scream "I just rolled out of bed... with a hot stallion of a man."

9. Spritz your favorite scent. After a long day of shopping (or God forbid, "work"), a dabble of your go-to perfume is an instant pick-me-up. Stash it in your purse for mood-lifting emergencies.

10. Go somewhere new. Whether it's the new wine bar you've been eyeing a few blocks over or a weekend getaway to a fresh city, you'll be the new girl... and that comes with benefits (um, male attention).
