Inspired By: Napolean Dynamite
Have you ever mixed caffeine, insomnia, nerves, and excitement into one day? It's much better than binge drinking vodka red bulls, let me tell you...
I have some exciting news coming your way but I'm gonna wait it out and let it linger a little bit before saying anything (to squelch any suspicions I am not secretly an alien revealing my extraterrestrial identity and I am not pregnant with octuplets... that schtick is so up and I'm figuring out another way to get a reality show, thanks).
In the meantime I'd like you to know that I viewed Napolean Dynamite last weekend (whilst dressed as Gothic Stevie and sipping red wine before departing into the depths of beer soaked karaoke bars) and I liked it as much as I did the first five times I watched it.
There's something about fupa inducing jeans that really get my creative juices flowing, so I created an outfit based on this handsome fella:
Ginger in the front row.
Here's my interpretation:

Happy Pants
Top- H&M (this week); Pants- Tory Burch; Shoes- Jessica Simpson Dany Platforms; Purse- Vintage Coach; Necklaces- Vintage.
Some pants are just happier than others.
These previously mentioned, Austin Powers-esque pantatlones are the happiest of the bunch. I never thought I'd be slapping a bright floral print over my bum, but something about these Tory Burch wide legs just did it for me.
I always know a piece of clothing is meant for me when I can't stop dancing in the dressing room. It's like you feel a piece of your personality manifested in fabric and you just think "this is so me."
Anyways, before I get philisophical about some groovy pants I'd like to apologize for the quality of these images. This photoshoot sprung up unexpectedly around 1 am and consequently features a lovely accessory- an unnecessary glass of pinot in hand.
You might see this pants in better lighting sometime, so consider this a sneak peek.
And, if you've been on the emotional roller coaster of "The Bachelor" finale and would like to talk about Emily and Brad... I'm here for you.

Tuesday's Top 10; The Oscars Best Dressed
This Sunday evening we began what I have a feeling will be a tradition, of cheering on Hailee at the Oscars. I was quite excited about my roses and overpriced plastic oscars which I picked up on Hollywood blvd this Saturday:
Naturally, aside from the best supporting actress category, I was most excited about red carpet arrivals.
Sadly, with the exception of Hailee and Cate Blanchett I was slightly underwhelmed. I just felt like some fun and frivolity was missing...
Yet, I somehow managed to pick my nine favorites of the evening, plus one after party all star.
And also a tad too excited about the taco bar... and well stocked refreshment bar (hydration is so pivotal).

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy
Our Hailee in her custom made Marchesa!
Camila Alves in Kaufmanfranco
Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein
Hilary Swank in Gucci
Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier
Florence Welch in Valentino
Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein
Rhea Durham in Naeem Kahn
And now we move to the after party because, quite honestly, there weren't 10 dresses I loved on the red carpet (disappointment)....
Diane von Furstenberg

I'll Be Seeing You: Bill Cunningham New York
I am dying to see this documentary on NY Times photographer Bill Cunningham. Any trailer that has me writing down quotes is one to get excited about.
It opens in LA on March 25th for one week only. Check here to see where it's playing near you.

Friday's Favorite Things
So, I've kind of had a funky week. I did some interesting things, like catch a cold, subsequently lose it then pick it up again in accidental haste.
I did not unload my laundry from a week ago (to give you an indication of my focus this week) but somehow found time to prance through all of Santa Monica's consignment and vintage stores.
Great Labels was pretty impressive and if you're looking for (previously loved) Missoni dresses at an eighth of the price it's your stop. Wasteland totally hit my sweet spot with a big collection of maxi skirts; unfortunately I got there minutes before closing time and in a moment of haste got a zipper stuck in my hair in the dressing room while yelling to the hipster dressing room attendee- "I'm almost done! lightning fast!" ... I walked out with a cool, albeit random and awkward (sort of) Indian tunic. Your guess is as good as mine.
Some other things happened but most days involved me staring at a computer screen with the attention span of a kindergartner on pixie stix.
Here's what I like right now (aside from you... and carbohydrates)
1. Favorite discovery: almond milk (heaven in a cup).
2. Favorite alter-ego revisited:
3. Favorite stylish lady: Joanna Hillman. She's always on point and her boots are from Gap. All star.
4. Favorite Blog of the week: Streetfsn, for its NY Fashion week updates... sigh, to be there.... in this outfit:
5. Favorite little moment: really lol'ing (hard) at my bbms in public.
*Un-favorite moments: dog farts; any time spent on the 405; an audition which required me to learn Michael Jackson choreography and perform with all professional dancers (yes, it was as comical as you're imagining).

Other Things I Did This Week

| What I didn't get to do at the bar. |
I also ate at Blue Plate and Literati Bar and Grill. You've probably been there before because I'm a bit of late bloomer when it comes to restaurant knowledge, but if not I highly recommend both places. Naturally, I ordered breakfast and alcohol at both meals and was impressed greatly.
I also wrote some stuff.
In case you have prying relatives or grandparents with halitosis I wrote this Holiday Season Survival Guide. For all of my Weekly Dig articles I mostly have to use my own photos, which means my friends and family are given uncomfortable weekly shout outs.
I also like lace (a lot) so I hit the web in search of cheap lace finds and wrote this piece for The Budget Fashionista. I want the lace maxi skirt...
And, since it's been ski socks cold lately I found ten cozy scarves under ten dollars in this article.
Hope you've had a splendid weekend!

Hey, I'm Not Going To Judge You...
1. If you consciously wear cuter pajamas to bed (in lieu of your usual retainer/underwear combination) when there's earthquake warnings.
2. If you care about who won the world series as much as you care about your grandpa's bowel movements.
3. If you give yourself points for throwing on your exercise outfit... even though you never made it to the gym.
4. If you've ever shaved your legs before a pedicure just to avoid the mental preoccupation of "does this woman think my legs are disgustingly spiky?!"
5. If you frequently spoon your blackberry.
6. If your casual, messy bun actually takes about five attempts.
7. If the name of the nail polish is a huge factor in your decision when you "chooz yo cuh-la"
8. If you feel very uncomfortable when a guy recognizes your perfume because you know it means: A) his ex wore the same scent. B) he is a creep. C) he is a salesman giving out "free" perfume samples. D) he is a super creep.
9. If you liked Katherine Heigl better when she was in Disney's "Wish Upon A Star."
10. If you only sleep on one side of your bed because you saw a spider on the other side... three weeks ago.

MAXImum Glam
I've already mentioned my obsession with maxi skirts and dresses, but everywhere I turn (and click) they keep catching my eye! I just can't get enough of the glamorous hippie vibe. I think I was born in the wrong era. Just call me Jen-nay, as in, "Run Forrest Run!" (minus that little drug use phase and subsequent unflattering death at the end).
Anyways, I'm particularly fond of these floor length pieces worn with rough boots, chunky sweaters, vests, and leather bomber jackets. I picked up the leopard print (I know, I know... again with the complex) maxi directly below from H&M and I can already tell she and I are in the beginning of what will be a splendid relationship. We already survived a night of many spilled vodka sodas and colossal frizz-your-hair-beyond-repair rainfall. Enjoy these images that showcase the variety of ways to do the maxi.

On My Mind Monday
Listening to: Lizz Wright- I Idolize You
Craving:
Coveting:
On my To Do List: Handcraft Halloween costume; find perfect pair of cropped leather booties.
Watching:
Reading (... or looking at): Photographer Terry Richardson's diary.
On my Social Agenda: This party at the Vanguard Friday night. I will be wearing a wig and answering to a not-yet-determined different name.
Inspired By: Annie Hall's black turtleneck layered under long bohemian dress look.
On My Mind: Where do bees go when it's raining? I thought of my own answer: they go into hive-ernation... cue silent room/crickets.

True Grit Trailer Is Here (Go Hailee, Go!)
As you may remember from a previous post, my dear family friend Hailee Steinfeld is the star of the newest Coen brothers flick, "True Grit," opposite Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin.
It was amazing to watch Hailee, Bridges and Damon in action on the Austin, Texas set and my memories were revived when I caught a glimpse of the first trailer that debuted today. The internet is already abuzz with Oscar predictions for the Coen brothers, Bridges and Hailee and the trailer only substantiates predictions. I'm totally smitten with the opening sequence and the song played throughout the piece. Enjoy the trailer below!

Tuesday's Top Ten, My Personal Top Ten Songs
I am the sort of girl that loves to spend hours aimlessly clicking around on iTunes and discovering obscure (or at least new to me) tunes and old classics. And so, today's top ten is a compilation of ten of my all-time favorite songs. It's impossible to narrow it down completely but these are my tried and true classics that have been loved since my first boom box.
1. Hotel California by the Eagles. Reminds me of warm air, road trips and driving around in the desert in my grandparent's golf cart.
2. Lovefool by the Cardigans. My go-to song for solo dance-in-your-panties parties.
3. Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton. Up until about age 15 I genuinely believed this song was written for me.
4. Slow Dance by John Legend. A song that makes your soul dance.
5. Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven. Makes me cry, in a good way.
6. Rich Girl by Hall & Oates. Reminds me of best friends, margaritas and Lake Havasu.
7. With A Little Help From My Friends by Joe Cocker. The theme song from my favorite childhood show, "The Wonder Years."
8. Doo Wop (That Thing) by Lauryn Hill. Poignant and catchy lyrics that make you bounce.
9. Turn Me On by Norah Jones. My grandmother refers to Norah Jones as the "moaning lady." I adore her. This song is also in "Love Actually" which makes it doubly amazing.
10. It Had To Be You by Harry Connick Jr. A tune from my favorite movie "When Harry Met Sally."

When in Austin,TX: Shop!
Last month I got the chance to visit my very close family friend Hailee Steinfeld on the set of her new movie "True Grit." At just thirteen Hailee is starring opposite Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin in this Coen brothers flick due out in theaters Christmas Day.
We spent most of our time on location with Hailee, mingling with Bridges and Damon, who are both as sweet as pie and as handsome as they look on screen. But in addition to sitting in director's chairs and eating more craft services than I can even describe, we also got to explore (essentially eat and drink our way through) Austin. I enjoyed the eclectic, lively vibe that pulses through the city: young people everywhere, ice cream stands next to upscale eateries, and some very friendly cowboys (hello y'all!).
But most of all I could not get enough of the vintage stores that were all over the city. I have an overwhelming affection for vintage fashion- the 1960's and 70's especially- and dragged the crew to every vintage/thrift store I could get my swollen-from-the-amount-of-fried-food-we-ate hands on.
Two stores tickled my fancy in particular. First, Feathers Boutique (1700 B. Congress Ave)- an adorable little shop with fabulous prices and interesting and carefully selected pieces. There were a ton of great eighties finds and fun patterned rompers (which, despite many valiant efforts, just do not work on me). I picked up a sexy cut out cocktail dress and was also in awe of their collection of vintage Playboy magazines-- (all that hair! that's really all I have to say about that). The selection is organized and easy to manage so it's also a great store if you're not able to sift through jam-packed racks. They've also got a cute blog with store updates.
My second shopping crush was Mana Culture- a store with a gorgeous line of original necklaces, rings and earrings, most of which are hand-crafted and designed by Mana. I picked up some unique gold necklaces from Mana Culture at the local artist's market on Congress street but they also have a boutique at 2214 South 1st St and a website with some of their pieces. I recently fell in love with the "Selene" earrings (seen above) on the website. I'm a gold lover and these have an interesting, ethnic feel.
